Mary O'Hare and War "You'll pretend you were men instead of babies, and you'll be played in the movies by Frank Sinatra and John Wayne or some of those other glamorous, war-loving, dirty old men. And war will look just wonderful, so we'll have a lot more of them. And they'll be fought by babies like the babies upstairs" (Slaughter-House-Five, p. 14). In your blog, please respond to the above quotation. Do you agree or disagree? Do movies help promote war? Were they more likely to promote war in the past. Please explain your position. I agree with this quote. Young men are sent off to war with little experience. I have always believed that war is more or less necessary. However the government should at least have some chance to experience young adulthood before being sent to the bloodied battlefields and terror that is war. Yes I also believe movies help to promote war. They make it look heroic and beatiful. Also I think that they were more likely to promote war because there was a greater need of large forces due to low tech equipment. Discuss the two or three war films that you have seen. Which ones would you consider pro-war and which ones would you consider anti-war? Tears of the Sun was a pro-war movie that stars Bruce Willis. This movie shows the pain and suffering of war however it also makes war look extremely heroic and rewarding. Bruce Willis is on a reckon mission and he saves a village along with most of the men under his command. An anti-war movie is Saving Private Ryan. In this movie Private Ryan was separated from his brothers all of which died in the war. A group of soldiers are sent out to retrieve him and take him home. This movie is sad although heroic as well. It shows the tragedy of separating families during wars.
